What is an ODBC driver and what does it do?
ODBC stands for Open DataBase Connectivity and is a Microsoft standard for accessing different database systems from within Windows.
Most popular databases have an associated ODBC connection routine.
It is provided free with some databases but others have their ODBC driver as an extra that you must purchase.
