Unable to Install Ostendo Client from Client Install Program - Alternative Setup Method Using Multi Companies

Sometimes there maybe occasions when, for a number of reasons (eg: permissions settings, registry access etc..) you are unable to successfully run the standard Ostendo Client Installation application.

An alternative method for setting this up is by simply configuring a Desktop Shortcut on the Client machine to force Ostendo to open a specific Company ID using the STARTUPID parameter.

This same method can be used when multiple Ostendo Databases are in use on the same server, thereby providing separate icons to the user to access specific Ostendo databases.

  1. Ensure the \Ostendo folder on the Server has been 'Shared' and Windows Exceptions have already been created for ports 3050 and 4380 (This is only necessary if this is a completely new Ostendo Install on the Server)
  2. Ensure you have mapped a Network Drive from the Client machine to the Ostendo\Folder on the Server (It is suggested you use 'O' Drive for this)
  3. Log onto the Server and go to File -> System Configuration -> Multiple Companies
    1. If the Database you wish to access is set to 'Default', then add a Company ID record with a Company ID of 'Default', then browse to the database fdb file
    2. If the Database you wish to access is other than 'Default', then create a Company ID record  (if one does not already exist for this database fdb file. (Take note of this Company ID name)
  4. On the Client machine create a new Desktop Icon with both the Target and Start in settings as shown. (Substitute the STARTUPID: company ID as required)
