Server Port Exceptions for Ostendo

Server Port Exceptions for Ostendo

Server Ports required to be 'Open' to run Ostendo

After the installation of Ostendo onto a Server in a 'Client Server environment you will need to open port 4380 on the Server. To do this you are required to create  Windows Firewall Inbound / Outbound exception rules against port 4380.

If this port is not open, you will find that there will be a considerable delay in displaying the Ostendo Log In screen after the Ostendo Desktop icon has been selected.

Setting Windows Firewall Inbound / Outbound Port Exception. (NB: These steps must be performed on the Server)

(If you are not confident to do this, our recommendation is to contact your IP Support provider for assistance)
  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Select System and Security
  3. Select Windows Defender Firewall
  4. Select Advanced Settings
  5. Click on Inbound Rules and right click to create a New Rule
  6. Rule Type = Port (press Next)
  7. Rule applies to  = TCP
  8. Specified Local Ports = 4380 (press Next)
  9. Allow Connection selected (press Next)
  10. Domain / Private and Public all selected (press Next)
  11. Name = Ostendo
  12. Click on Outbound Rules and right click to create a New Rule
  13. Rule Type = Port (press Next)
  14. Rule applies to  = TCP
  15. Specified Remote Ports = 4380 (press Next)
  16. Ensure Allow Connection is selected (press Next)
  17. Domain / Private and Public all selected (press Next)
  18. Name = Ostendo
Now the port exception has been set you should be able to launch Ostendo from a Client machine without the previous delay.

It should also be noted that Firebird (Ostendo database management software) uses port 3050. This port should already have had port exceptions automatically created when Ostendo was first installed. If not, Ostendo will not run at all. If by any chance port 3050 was not already automatically opened, you can repeat the above process instead specifying port 3050. (Both 3050 and 4380 are required to be open)
