Remote Database Setup and DeploymentTo follow up on yesterday’s email broadcast, this article provides Partners with detailed guidance on setting up and configuring an AWS instance, along with instructions for configuring the server and deploying Ostendo access for remote users. This article is technical in nature and assumes you already have an existing AWS account. It is intended for Technical Partners who wish to be hands-on with this aspect of the setup, as well as IT companies involved in configuring remote Ostendo environments. For Partners who prefer not to manage the initial Cloud server setup themselves—either now or in the future—Cassini Cloud will be offering a fully managed service at a very competitive rate (around AUD $20 per user per month). Further information on this service will be provided soon. Historically, Major Ostendo Updates have been released using incremental numbering (e.g., 238, 242, etc.). With Update 243, this model changes. The new approach enables Development-X to deploy new Ostendo builds alongside the existing Minor Updates. Previously, when a new ostendo.exe build was published, Partners/Sites were required to manually download and apply it. Now, with the executable held at the client-machine level, this process becomes semi-automated. When a user logs into Ostendo, the system checks for the latest build and prompts the user to apply it with a simple click. This ensures each client machine is always running the most current build.
With the combination of Minor Updates and automatic build updates, there is no longer a need to apply a Major Update in the traditional sense. The update process becomes continuous and self updating.
For this reason, we are moving away from the traditional “Update XXX” naming convention and adopting the term Continuum Edition for this new release (currently known as Update 243).
The term Continuum reflects something that “continues to move forward progressively,” which aptly describes this new evolution of Ostendo.
Please note that the product name remains Ostendo.
Previous releases of Ostendo will continue to be referred to using their original Major Update numbers (e.g., Update 242).
Going forward, Update 243 will progressively be referred to as the Continuum Edition. |
